MORNING!! My body clock is so out of WHACK! I have been up every morning at 5am, literally on about 4 hours sleep and the funny thing is I feel Grrrrrreat! Not sure why I can’t do this is in the concrete jungle of NYC… funny that!
My day begins with 3 more site inspections in Phuket before I jet off to Bangkok for the night… As usual Pooh & Boon are in the lobby, my chariot awaits! First on my to do list is Twin Palms… a new hotel to our ever growing collection, 97 rooms, great vibe, young, cool, hip, party people in da house!! pool action, Beach club, house music, wine makers too… Me likey a lot!! 🙂
Next up the Pavilions, this was probably the greatest surprise to me out of all the Smith hotels I had seen. For some reason I had never really gravitated towards this property but boy oh boy was I WRONG! Set on the banks of Bang Tao Bay, this sexy, slick, property is a lovers destination. There are 49 units, each with private pool and their very own spa room with couples massage tables…the property ooooooozes sex appeal (I know I have already said the “S” word) a modern/contemporary design with Asian touches, Chinoiserie would be how I would describe the feel. Breathtaking views, complete privacy, 800 yards from the beach with a shuttle every 2 hours .. to be honest all you want to do is lock yourself away in your Love Pavilion and NEVER LEAVE!! Their tag line “no tan lines” I LOVED IT!
Onward I go to the final property in Phuket; The Indigo Pearl… 20 minutes from Phuket Airport – well it’s actually more like 10. This 177-room resort has a little bit of something for everyone, Kids, parents, grandparents… The property is really big but although its a resort I was very impressed by the art and design, its focus is on Tin mining and the rubber plantations which back in the day were huge commodities in Thailand especially Phuket. 2 Adult pools, one family Pool, Game room 3 restaurants, 2 bars, great spa,
And so my adventure in Phuket has finally come to an end… time to bid farewell to Yee old faithful compadres… Pooh and Boon, I had so much fun with them… Boon is the BEST driver in all of Thailand and Pooh is just full of knowledge and took such great care of me… 72 hours I will not forget!
After going through 3 security check points, I board the plane.. “Ladies & Gentlemen, This is your Captain speaking, its going to be a little bumpy on the way out as we have to fly around a Typhoon, but nothing to worry about” Grrrrrreat! Looks like I will be summoning those Gods again! Aye Aye Aye!
LANDED SAFE & SOUND!
One Night in Bangkok and World’s your Oyster!!
The city that is full of PARTS UNKNOWN! I’m a massive Anthony Bourdain fan… if you don’t know who I am talking about please google him NOW as the next portion of my blog pertains to him! My alter ego! BUT before I delve into that yet I forgot to mention that I upon my arrival to Thailand on Day one my wonderful cab driver was the nicest man… his name… Mr Somporn! Yup that’s right – Mr Some-Porn! I mean that has got to be the best name EVERRRRRRRRRRR! He had the kindest face and all he could say in English was “YES” and “Everything good forrrr you” – he picked me up the following morning from the Ma Du Zi when I left for Koh Samui. I felt totally safe in his yellow taxi…. So cut too I had orchestrated a sweet deal with him every time I landed in Bangkok so that I didn’t have to deal with Taxis and schlepping luggage whilst bouncing around from hotel to hotel…
Before I can become one with Anthony 3 more stops: First, The Sukhotai, a very fancy shmancy 210 room hotel, very contemporary , soft Jazz playing in the lobby, afternoon tea with finger sandwiches, fantastic spa, 2 tennis courts, Squash Court, Boxing ring, Gym, 3 restaurants, 2 bars, coffee shop has a very corporate yet Ritzy feel to it.
Next up, The Metropolitan By Como , home to the world renowned NAHM restaurant, practically impossible to get a rezzie. The first thing that hits you is their signature geranium scent, the second thing is the smooth house music filling the lobby… nice entrance! 121 rooms, 10 spa treatment rooms, pool and infamous Met Bar serving the BEST Martini in Bangkok and NO I didn’t put them to the test, I just nodded politely and rolled my eyes – I mean everyone knows the I make the BEST MARTINI!!! lots of celebs come and rub shoulder together at this property… its low key and yet has everything you need without being over-the-top.
OK, so I am FINALLY going to my last port of call and my home for the night, The Oriental Residences... I bid farewell to Mr Somporn and confirm my pick up for the morning at 630am!.. its now 6pm and all I want to do is venture into the night and become emersed with all that is Bangkok.. or at least have a little taster… This property has 145 rooms the majority are 2/3/4 & 5 bedroom residences so perfect for the long term traveler… great design and decor, very Frrrrrrench, pastil colors, easy on the eye… I like it, I liked it a lot
Site inspection COMPLETE… Time to become my alter ego – ANTONIA BOURDAIN! See you on the other side….
