Was it a dream?? Did I hear rain… No RAIN! its a beautiful glorious day on the Island of Koh Samui! HALLEUJIAH!!
Sawadee Ka (greetings) Khun Lovelies
I am off to do my site inspection. I have a big day ahead of me. The Six Senses Samui is a rustic lux retreat with a focus on wellness and all things organic They have 66 villas, (52 with a private pool) 2 restaurants *Dining on the Hill* and *Dining on the Rocks* I was starving (as usual) but having a hard time leaving my room… with a view! and OH what a view!
I bid goodbye to the Samui Senses and made my way to airport bound for Krabi. Once again I found myself in this mini Disney World of an airport, its probably the best airport I have ever seen. I was going to take loads of pictures but then I thought.. hmmmm! you are in Thailand and you are taking pictures of airport lounges al fresco and the snack bar… WHY?? so I took a picture of the plane instead!
KRABI – Here I come.. and HERE COMES THE #*&#@%^& RAIN!!!! I mean rain like it hadn’t rained… EVERRRRRRR!! … Since the beginning of TIME!! for crying out LOUD! You have got to be kidding me… my 45 minute flight went from Aaaaaaaaaaaah Bisto! (only Brits will get that one) to WTFFFFFFF!!!! in about 5 seconds, I prayed to every God I had ever heard about, read about and even made some up just in case!! and all the while the lovely stewardess who just happened to be sitting in front of me kept saying.. “Prease Ka, no wollies, we will be Klabi soon”. I closed my eyes and started humming “Oh What a Beautiful Morning” from Oklahoma (its my feel good song) except I kept changing the words in my head… I would repeat them but my Mum will kill me if I do – they were not very lady like at all!!! It’s OK Jazz, everything is going to be FINE – it’s just a TYPHOON at DEFCON 1!! ! as my knuckles turned white, clenching onto the arm rests of my seat for dear life. The prop plane, seemed more like a paper plane as we are being tossed about in this CYCLONE and it started making a very strange noise (which I later found out were the wheels being deployed in the HURRICANE) … Please land, please land, please land… I promise to be good (yeah right) I promise to… LANDED!!! For the LOVE of ALL the Gods I prayed for – THANK YOU!!! I promise I will do my best NOT to be Krabi in Krabi.
First stop, (in the rain) Rayavadee a 37 minute car journey from the airport and then 45 minutes by By boat.. of course its by boat in a TORNADO!!! I put on a brave face, I decided the only option I had was to become ONE with the rain, BE the rain…
Set on 26 acres of land, this 20yr old property is located in the Phranang Peninsula amidst lush foliage, limestone cliffs, white sand beaches and the emerald waters of the Andaman Sea. Unfortunately it was so wet & windy that my site inspection was awash, every pun intended. So I settled for a deeeeeelicious Thai lunch with Khun Dalin the GM and a sampling of their finest cocktails – I mean come on, wouldn’t you? 🙂
The owners are Thai and have a deep passion for all plant life, they have planted over 100 trees on property not to mention 100’s of other plants, so the upkeep and maintenance is an arduous task.
Back on the boat we go… Aye Aye Aye! This time the swells were bigger, it was raining so hard that you couldn’t see 2 feet in front of you so the Captain was driving REALLLLLLLLLLLY Slowly.. so the commotion with the motion of the Ocean is well…you now… not so pleasant – “look out onto the Horizon Jazz” said the little voice in my head.. What horizon?? all I see are 6ft waves, Note to self – DO NOT EAT A BIG THAI LUNCH BEFORE GETTING BACK ON THE BOAT!
Finally TERRA FERMA! I am now on my way to Phulay Bay, about 30 minutes from Rayavadee.. there is Boat option, a 30 minutes cruise across the emblematic limestone karts but I was so OVER Boats and Planes by this point I figured I would tough it out in an air conditioned, pimped out, leather seated mini-bus in the hopes that my head would stop spinning and I would BE one as a human again. I was definitely NOT prepared for this AMAZING Ritz Carlton Reserve… I was met by the Director Of Rooms… George Vlachopoulos, ” I am so sorry for all dis rains Jasmine” (Me) “Oh George its all good, I have been praying to the Gods that it will stop soon” (George) “Well I am Greek so I too have been praying to the Greek Gods Poseidon, Zeus, The Nesoi & Hemera” (Me) “yes they were on the plane with me on the way over including Uranus” (OMG!! did I really just say that?? URANUS? really Jazz, well he is the God of The Heavens)… after a laugh or two George introduced me to my “Butler” Khun Wanda, she was to be with me for the duration of my stay (all 12 hrs of it) and cater to my every need.. WOW! ok. This BEEEEEAUTIFUL property is about 4 yrs old and is the first of 2 Ritz Carlton Reserves, 54 Villas with a Thai/Moroccan design… it is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!
I was then escorted to my room… well I mean this was NOT a room, it was a Palace fit for Princess … “are you sure this is my room Khun Wanda?” “Yes Khun Jasmine, the Ocean Reserve Pool villa” – OOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMGGGGGGG!!!
The bed alone is almost 12 feet long (the size of 2 King Beds) and about 1.5ft thick, it was like falling on a cloud (not that I know what this like but you know what I mean)
The most amazing bathroom I have EVER seen… I just wandered around with wonder and Wanda for about 10 minutes…
(Cue Video – Still uploading I am at 57%) – STAND BY PLEASE!
After I finally closed my mouth and stopped drooling I made my way to the grounds for a little peek, in the RAIN!
The property has 2 restaurants, Thai and international and a Sunset beach Bar… I was hungry (really?? how odd) so opted for the Southern Thai option and couldn’t WAIT to get back to my Jewel on the beach… upon my return this is what I found!
My days of being crabby are well and truly over – yes that’s right people you now have it in WRITING!
Next stop – KHAO LAK & the Island of YAO NOI!
